RESEARCH & OFFICIAL PROCEDURES

Start with the official source.

PeruVisas explains the routes in English. Migraciones and Peruvian consulates set the requirements and decide applications. Use the links below to verify the procedure that applies to you.

Visiting Peru: visa and permission to stay

  1. Check your nationality, passport type and purpose against the Foreign Affairs visa requirements table. Visa exemptions can have conditions; contact the competent Peruvian consulate if your case is unclear.
  2. Read the tourist visa procedure and Migraciones entry guidance. A passport normally needs at least six months of validity; regional identity-document exceptions may apply.
  3. Confirm the days actually authorized on arrival using your TAM Virtual record. A published maximum is not an automatic grant of 183 days. Do not assume leaving and re-entering resets your stay.
  4. Tourism is different from residence or work permission. Before extending or changing status, identify the specific procedure available to your nationality and circumstances.

Residence: choose the correct procedure

An application from outside Peru and a change of status while inside Peru are distinct processes. Government fees, supporting documents, representation, biometrics and ID-card steps can differ. Read the linked procedure before paying or ordering documents.

Andean and Mercosur routes

Citizens of Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador should check the Andean Migration Statute procedures. These include a specific tourist extension, temporary residence of up to two years, and a permanent-residence application route. The tourist extension is not a general rule for every nationality.

A separate Mercosur temporary residence procedure may apply. Confirm the current list of eligible nationalities and the transition deadline for indefinite residence; do not treat the two agreements as interchangeable.

APPLICATION AVAILABILITY NOT VERIFIED

Digital nomad status exists in law.

Decreto Legislativo 1582 created the category in November 2023. The official announcement conditioned implementation on regulations and a TUPA application procedure. This review did not verify an operational application route. We therefore do not publish an assumed income threshold, sell it as an available application, or recommend tourist status as a work permit.

How to use this research

We prioritize the applicable legislation, current Migraciones procedures and the competent consulate. An official webpage can still contain old or conflicting text. For example, tourist-extension wording varies across pages, and a 2025 Migraciones notice addresses restrictions on representatives still described in some older procedures. Confirm these points with the authority before filing.

A review date records when we checked the public sources; it does not guarantee that a consulate, fee or portal has remained unchanged. Administrative decision periods are not guaranteed completion dates. Visa status does not determine your full tax position or provide automatic citizenship.

Before long trips, check the authorization for extended absences. Residence conditions and resident-card expiry are separate matters.
